Rizz’s Trailer Park Review: Battleship

YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!

See? NO ALIENS!

Now, I’m going to ignore the fact that the movie, Battleship, looks like total garbage and I wouldn’t go watch it even if I had a free ticket. I’m going to forget that my childhood has been crushed by whomever made this movie about humans vs. aliens. I’m going to forget all of that and watch the new gameplay trailer for Battleship: The Video Game. Quietly. To myself.

You know? It’s not all that bad. I mean, yes it’s based off of a crappy premise movie but, overall, this trailer caught my eye. It has the FPS gameplay quality of Call of Duty and it just looks good.

What boggles me is that what the movie trailer seems to miss out on…the video game trailer seems to pick up the slack. Usually when there’s a movie-based video game, the movie looks good (in this case the trailer) and the video game…well…sucks (See: Spiderman, Men in Black, E.T., ANY game based on a superhero). However now we got to the point where the movie based on a kid’s game looks so horrible that the game that’s based on the horrible looking movie about the awesome child’s game looks…good.

I don’t know why but this game looks way better than the movie that’s coming out. I guess it’s because the first person shooter has been around for so long that messing up a first person shooter is a lot harder than messing up a movie about…a board game.

From the looks at the trailer, it looks like that this game will not only incorporate a generic first person shooter game, but it also looks like the folks down at Double Helix is combining an FPS with strategic placement, which is what MADE Battleship one of those classic games from our childhood. This is something that very few games have done, if they have it hasn’t been done successfully in all the years that I have been playing video games. The cut scenes and gameplay combination in this trailer looks awe-inspiring.

I had no intention of playing this game because of what I saw from the movie…not going to mention that there should NOT BE ALIENS IN BATTLESHIP. Now looking at the video game trailer, I may have to try this out.

Maybe.

What do you guys think about this trailer? What were your expectations? Has there been any video games based on movies that looked better than the movie? Make your move and leave me a comment down below.
