Turn 10 has released the August Forza Motorsport 4 car pack! It has a classic Gruppe B rally car! It has a historic Le Mans car! It has a Lincoln!
Wait. What?
Turn 10′s fascination with putting cars in Forza 4 that fit within a driving simulator the way a ribeye fits on a McDonald’s menu continues this month with the 1962 Lincoln Continental. Some have said that it’s awesome to see a car with suicide doors in Forza. Personally,I don’t see how suicide doors or a 5,000+ pound curb weight will help you outrun a Ferrari at Circuit de la Sarthe. One person told me that it was cool to see a vintage car featured in Forza. That’s all fine and dandy but where’s my Volkswagon Buggy? My Ferrari 308? My Chevy Corvair? Where are the cars that would actually add some value to a driving simulator?
I was excited when the 1959 Cadillac El Dorado Biarritz Convertible made its way to Forza. Then I drove it. It is heavy. That fact is very well reflected in the way it handles, accelerates, brakes, and slowly sucks the joy out of Forza. But wait! You can turbocharge it and make it lighter! At that point, it matches most early 90′s Ferraris if they’re stock and don’t go above 3/4 throttle. The day I downloaded that pack, I played with the Caddy then parked it. Haven’t used it since and almost certainly won’t ever again.
So why the Lincoln? Why not the Batmobile? People actually build those. The 1989 model is a stretched Chevy Caprice with a small block V8. I may not be a Batman scientist, but I think people would be interested in that. I also think people would be interested in a car pack of just Batmobiles.
Hint hint.
Cough cough.
The Lincoln is a historic car. It has no redeeming qualities for it’s performance. Had they said that you could put a twin turbo Ford Triton V10 in the trunk and make it all wheel drive, it may have been worth adding. But I can almost certainly guarantee they didn’t because Turn 10 only believes in modest tuning.
There’s some great cars in that car pack. The Peugeot and the Benz are revolutionary cars. Too bad you can’t use the Peugeot on a dirt track since Forza doesn’t add dirt tracks to go with their rally cars. It’d also be nice if Forza released new tracks like they hint at but never do. Oh well. Suicide doors it is.
