Chachi Says Console Review: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate!

Welcome to another Chachi Says Console review: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate! Pausing my vacation to throw up a review of the latest edition of Assassin’s Creed game for all of you. Assassin’s Creed is one of the few games that make me want to buy a new system for and i did. My main worry about doing so is wondering if the game is worth it. It is. 100 percent worth it as far as Assassin’s creed games go. I am going to do my best to not spoil any major plot lines in the game while doing this. Lets get to it!

Game: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Developer: Ubisoft

Platform: Xbox One

Relive the Memory of an assassin in history to stop the templar attempts at world domination.

Game Play:

If you are up to date on your Assassin’s Creed games then you know since Desmond there hasn’t been an up front out of Animus character. This does not change here you are playing yet another unknown person helping the assassin’s stop the current day Templars by reliving past assassins. This time the game takes place in London 1868. For the first time you play as assassin brother and sister Jacob and Evie Frye looking to take back London from templar control for the first time in 100 years. You are able to switch between the two and roam the streets as whichever sibling you want. Which i think is a great adjustment to the game series allowing you to play a strong female lead.

evieAll of the side missions and collection quests are still here with an assortment of npc characters to help you along the way as long as you help them as usual. (My favorite being Robert Topping aka “Bookie Bob” he controls the fight clubs and races throughout the city.) The gang aspect of the series has returned allowing you to reclaim the city as you go all from the constantly rolling train headquarters through different aspects. Gang headquarter, stopping child labor and kidnapping criminals for arrest help you claim back the city.

The free run aspect has been tweaked a bit adding different buttons for up and down travel which stops from the many accidental jumps and death falls. The introduction of a zip line gun allows for quicker free run travel and makes you feel like an assassin spider man (in my opinion) making it more fun to travel the rooftops. There is no ship travel or just plain horse travel in this entry but it has been replaced with Horse and carriage travel. Allowing you to travel the city in this method as a pre car GTA style. You have to remember that it is london so be sure to drive on the correct side of the road. Yes, i am speaking from experience, i spent 10 mins getting irritated because there was alway oncoming traffic….

The usual introduction of historic characters continue as you help Charles Dickens, Queen Victoria, Karl Marx and more accomplish the things they are are known for as well as a glitch in the animus memory that allows you to help Winston Churchill fight WW1.acgp1Ubisoft also added in a skills upgrade section allowing you to grow a bit at a time as you see fit for each character, and gang skill upgrade to help maintain control of the city. This adds to the crafting aspect of the game making it harder to decide what you want to concentrate your money and resources on in the game.

Sound and Graphics:

The sound and graphics are exactly what they need to be. The update to the graphics to match the current gen console are right on point. The sound and music from the time period provide a completely immersive environment for you to enjoy. The attention to detail in the graphics of this game will be noticed. i spent a lot of time looking for real life locations in 1868.

Overall, the game play, story, sound and graphics are exactly what you are expecting on this gen of Assassin’s Creed games. The details along with the changes in the right elements of game play make for an enjoyable game from start to finish. I hope when a new AC game comes out that i find it to be the best entry in the series thus far and it did not let me down. I give this a hard 5 out of 5 and recommend that you get it if you can.

Video game themed things from around the Internet…net…net!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is your favorite post on the Internet today, at this time, on this website, Video game themed things from around the Internet…net…net!

First up!

The greatest go kart in the history of go karts has been made! Modeled off of the car from Arkham knight Batmobile it looks incredible.

Next up!

Runnerguy2489 on youtube beat a game blindfolded. That game is….Ocarina of Time… so many things I want to say but first and foremost I don’t buy it.

I don’t buy it.

Last but not least,

Colin Furze created a fully functional hidden blade and rope launcher. Real. Not toys. Dangerous stuff.

Again. Just give it to me.

That’s all the time I have for this week’s edition of Video game themed things from around the Internet…net…net! Tune in next week for another leg of my journey!

GBC: Assassin’s Creed Unity

I’m going to keep this short and sweet: There is a reason why they only put Unity on X-Box One and PS4.

So allow me to bring you another edition of Good, Bad and Changes that I would make in this.

Scrapbook_1418319494149GOOD: One of the main concerns for me featured all those glitches that were publicized and memed and put on the pedestal of reasons why you shouldn’t buy this game. I haven’t crossed paths with this…yet *knock on wood*.

The gameplay is what you would expect from an AC game and they’re smoother than a baby’s bottom. Easy transitions between enemies and just looks nice stabbing someone in the face really hard with you sword.

It is refreshing to see and feel like you’re actually doing something in this game and not just feel like you’re button mashing (which, going to throw this out there, I always feel like I am doing…which isn’t always bad thing if it doesn’t occur to me until a week after playing this game).

BAD: The co-op is something less desirable. The missions seem to be too similar and, honestly, there are times where I’m just going around being Stabby McStabbington (Mack for short). I must be doing something right because the mission is over after I got bored of stabbing all the guys. So yay?

CHANGES: This one is easy. The diamond scale is confusing. Waaaay confusing. The only description we get is the gear stone which tells you that the lowest rank of gear on your person equals your gear rank. However, adding to the confusion you have to be in combat in single player and multiplayer mode. I only recently figured this out by mistake whenever I did my first co-op mission then knowing my one diamond went to two.

Either way, go out there and buy this game. It should be in everyone’s arsenal of video games and I give both companies credit for doing what they did because now I see their hard work in action with this game.

Should successful game series stop before they go too far?

If you said no to the title of this then you’re kidding yourself. Its human nature to want to make as much money off of something before its too late. I’m not talking about the one or two off games in a series that aren’t as good as others in the series. I’m talking about releasing games because the company feels like its an easy way to boost the income. Unfortunately, they are usually right.

Nintendo is an example of everything bad i’ve said so far. Super Mario World 3d for the Wii U features a new Mario suit that allows characters to put on a cat suit. Not to limit it to the cat suit but Super Mario Sunshine, where you run around and clean? Really Nintendo? While i agree its a good idea to teach kids to clean up the environment not necessarily the best premise for a game. The Cat suit makes it seem like you put a bunch of new features in a hat and picked one out. While i love Nintendo and will continue to support and have hope Maybe its time to finally license out your properties and let some others have a chance with it.

On the other side of the coin Ubisoft announced recently that the extremely popular Assassins Creed series already has an end. In an interview with Eurogamer the director of Assassins Creed 4 said the following:

[We have multiple development teams, then we have the brand team that sits on top and is filled with writers and designers concerned with the series’ overall arc. So there is an overall arc, and each iteration has its place inside this. We have an idea of where the end is, what the end is. But of course [Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot] announced we are a yearly title, we ship one game a year. So depending on the setting, depending on what fans want, we’ve given ourselves room to fit more in this arc. But there is an end.]

Ubisoft however has been known to have multiple teams rotating in and out on several of the franchise games and has multiple games in production. Taking as much time as the particular game requires to be innovative. I think the system has worked well. Each game has been better than the last and has given me and a lot of other gamers something to look forward too with each new game in the series. Or else we will end up with games like Super Mario 3d and Final Fantasy 9….

What are your thoughts? Should gaming series have an ending from the beginning or do you think it should be free range? Let us know in the comments below!

Real Life Assassin’s Creed Parkour

I checked in after a long day at work to find out my Assassin’s Creed-addicted wife posted the following video.  In the making of video (linked at the end of the video) they talk about the research going into it, including the awkward way he walks to emulate the game’s motions, the real risks they take, and how they pulled off the one special effects shot in the entire piece.

They say they’re already working on an Assassin’s Creed 3 based video to be released in the near future. Check out more at their YouTube Channel.

Well Hot damn….. I cannot wait.

No Assassin’s Creed 3 Demo

In case you haven’t seen it yet, there will not be a demo available prior to the release of Assassin’s Creed 3. Ubisoft Annecy multiplayer game director Damien Kieken said the following regarding the demo:

“To be honest, it’s something we want to do every year because we get community feedback that helps us tune the game. It is also a good reward for the community that has followed us from the beginning. But doing a beta takes a lot of time, we’d need to polish a version, submit it to the platform holders and support it when it’s out. And all the time put into the beta doesn’t go into the final game. Because we wanted to push so many things into the game, we took the hard decision to favor the final game content instead of doing a beta and we believe it will be favorable in the end.”

While it’s understandable that Ubisoft wants to put it’s full resources into Assassin’s Creed 3, it is also a bold move considering the amount of new features in Assassin’s Creed 3. Between the new physics engine, new combat moves, and seasons, there are many opportunities for bugs to show themselves in a demo. These new features should also receive some initial feedback from fans since they are the first of their kind.

Ubisoft does have the resources to do their own extensive in-house testing but sometimes you do need to branch out. Hopefully the lack of a demo doesn’t have a negative effect on the final product.

Ubisoft evens the playing field.

Well, yesterday an employee of an electronics outlet supposedly leaked a picture of some promotional material for the next Assassins Creed game slated for an October 30th, 2012 release. Ubisoft evened the field and released the actual cover art for the game itself.

First this is one of the supposed “leaked” images:

Pretty awesome if you ask me. I’ll admit i’m behind in this particular series but am quickly catching up and if this entry in the series is as good as others that I have played then I am looking forward to parkouring and shanking some baddies for America!

Here is the actual cover art:
