Fav Five Friday: Games To Look For This E3*

*That we already know will be announced.

E3 is inching so close to us we can taste it. In fact, we are three months away from E3 and somewhere Gabe Newell just had a heart attack.

However, let us not waste precious time! June is right around the corner and THIS is your top 5 games to watch forat this year’s E3 event.

Now, the rules are different. Instead of listing 5 things, I am actually going to pick one from each major category (EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony). Let’s begin,  shall we?

MICROSOFT – Minecraft: Story Mode. For those of you who don’t know, Minecraft is now the property of Microsoft so I would not be surprised if this game gets announced at Microsoft’s E3. Also, it will be interesting to see how this game will look and feel, being it’s a story based game based off of a game that’s a free world based game.

SONY – Uncharted 4. This will be needed for a good E3 for Sony, as it was learned earlier this week that Uncharted’s release date was pushed back to 2016. Which blows. Hard. Maybe show some Beta footage along with a commercial. Get me excited to play this game, as I never had a PlayStation when Uncharted was a thing. It will be interesting to see how they turn this negative into a positive.

NINTENDO – (TIE) Zelda and Star Fox. Nintendo has hyped both of these games to no end ever since they were playing the open world Zelda game. I believe this is the time where Nintendo comes out guns a-blazing and shows us EVERYTHING about these two games. I want more, of course. Instead of watching some guy watch a green screen pretending he’s playing, play the game. DO A BARRELL ROLL! Oh God, I hope I actually get to play as Fox this time from the beginning and not ride a pterodactyl or something.

UBISOFT – Guess. I will give you three easy guesses on what I’m excited to see more information about. Show me something from Assassin’s Creed: Victory and my money will be tossed in your general direction, Ubisoft…it’s…it’s probably west. Do I need to tell you how Assassin’s Creed is going to be once Ubisoft announce it and show things from it? Hopefully no bugs, though. We don’t want that. I mean, look at England. LOOK AT IT!

ELECTRONIC ARTS: Mass. Effect. Four. Mass. Effect. Four. Mass. Effect. Four. Last year all we had was conception art, if this year is gameplay footage I will not be able to control my body. At all. I don’t expect gameplay, as it’s still quite possibly in the early early stages of development but man…I am a big Mass Effect fan and I don’t even know what to expect from this game. Do my choices in the first three games matter? Is Shepard in this? Is he not? Is this a prequel? Sequel? Do I play as a Prothean? Gah! Just tell me already!

BioWare’s Shadow Realms Announced

In Germany, Microsoft, EA and Bioware released a trailer for their new game that they hinted was going to happen during E3. Here is your first look at Shadow Realms, a fantasy 4-on-1 online multiplayer RPG set in a modern-day fantasy world.

That not good enough? Okay. How about the 4 minute gameplay video from IGN?

If this is the finished product, and it probably isn’t because there seems to be some rough edges that needs to be smoothed out (yes, I am aware that I am watching A VIDEO or A TELEVISION playing A VIDEO GAME), I don’t seem very impressed with Bioware/EA. This is a shocker for me because, as you all know, I am a huge Mass Effect fan and talking bad about a Bioware made game hits me right in the feels but this just seems to miss the point for me.

Maybe it’s the hype. I mean, remember this got a preview at E3!

Maybe I just have to actually play it to get a better feel to it, but I feel like we know BioWare for its’ storyline development (see: DragonAge; see: Mass Effect) and, now, it’s just a 4-on-1 online battle mode which looks like a Diablo clone. I hope I am wrong. I hope I am. BioWare has my money for the new Mass Effect, they know that. But it just seems like one of those situations where the 4-on-1 online game seems like it was awesome on paper (I mean, you guys get to play AS THE ONE WHO CONTROLS THE ENTIRE WORLD that your four opponents try to destroy. YOU PLAY THE EVIL DOER!), yet when you see the product live and in color, it looks totally different than what you imagined it being.

What are your guys thoughts about this game? Are you excited? Concerned? Picking it up later this or next year? Leave it in the comments below

EA Rep: “The WiiU is crap.”

After it broke that EA won’t make any games for the WiiU, Bob Summerwill (Senior Software Engineer and Architect) went to Twitter to further the distance between Nintendo and Electronic Arts.

“The WiiU is crap.” One tweet read, “Less powerful than the XBOX360. Poor online/store.  Weird tablet. Nintendo are walking dead at this point.” Oh it didn’t stop there! He continued on the next tweet: “Nintendo are still operating like it’s 1990. They should have ‘done a Sega’ and offered Mario/Zelda as PS4/Durango exclusives…” “…instead they make this awful console, and this [posts a picture] Just stop it! Just make great games!” Next tweet: “It is an utterly intentional decision to focus our resources on markets which actually matter…like mobile, and Gen4.” LAST TWEET “Nintendo platforms have always been very poor revenue-wise for third parties. Only Mario and Zelda make money.”

I can’t believe I’m saying this about an official over at EA…he’s not wrong.

Do you know how much dough Nintendo would rake in if they “pulled a Sega” and were JUST a software developer? A multi-platformed Zelda or Mario would do GANGBUSTERS in the market. Yet, they put all of their attention to a Wii U and the backlash that comes with having a console that looks like crap. As Chachi said…it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo finds out what we already know…Nintendo’s dead.

Remember last year when EA shocked the world when the readers at The Consumerist voted them the winner of the famed “Golden Poop” Award? No? Well, here’s the link to that story that was on ICTB last year around this time.

Well, Electronic Arts has made history!

In a rematch from last year’s bracket, EA was Louisville and Bank of America was Michigan, but the NCAA game was ACTUALLY closer than this one was.

Electronic Arts DOMINATED Bank of America 78-22 (percent) and crushed their opponents in the earlier rounds and proved, once again, that if you’re looking for a great video game company* don’t look at Electronic Arts (*not saying that EA’s a bad game manufacturer, just that their practices after releasing said game and the DLCs that come along for good video games…and Origin…and their response to Origin…and Sim City…suck).

Before the final tally was even over with, EA posted a counter “We could be better” victory speech which some (i.e. the people AT EA) are taking as an apology for not improving on last year’s “We will improve” mentality. Others, like myself and the majority of the people who read the letter spoke more to an idealistic mindset of “We’re not the problem here, YOU GUYS ARE!” As Peter Moore, COO of Electronic Arts, blames factions and petitions to vote for EA that span from such silly and asinine things as who’s on the Madden cover to people still bitter over endings of certain games and marriage equality groups (seriously).

Solution time, EA. Maybe stop worrying about who’s on the Madden COVER and make a more enjoyable Madden GAME with features that actually look like you are trying. Maybe instead of making a mediocre iPhone game for free and scam people into buying useless crap necessary to make it more enjoyable, make the GAME better (this goes towards the DLC concept, as well *cough*MASS EFFECT*cough*). Maybe instead of Origin…you do something different because Origin sucks. Also, when a magazine ranks you as ANYTHING don’t think it’s the end of the world and you have to defend yourself versus the people who voted for you…because you are going to spark more people to vote for you guys for a three-peat .

Just remember…Nick Nolte was named 1992’s Sexiest Man Alive.

Clearly, he was not.

What can EA do to improve? Leave it in the comments below.
