Mobile Monday Review: Llamas with Hats Cruise Catastrophe

It’s a new week! A new week means a new review! This week it’s  Llamas with Hats Cruise Catastrophe. This is another one of those games I picked up based on name alone, I wish it would’ve been better but read on and see the thoughts.

Mobile Monday Review: Llamas with Hats Cruise Catastrophe?Game:  Llamas with Hats Cruise Catastrophe

2014-08-20-06-21-59Developer: Jason Steele

Platform: Android, iOS

Wreck shop as a llama in a cool jester hat on the deck of a cruise ship. Run around kicking people off the boat and rack up the points!

2014-08-20-06-17-02Game play:
Running back and forth along the deck of a cruise ship using your hoofs kicking people  and racking up points. Using the direction pad move all 4 directions to line up with the people and use the kick button to boot their asses off of the cruise ship. You have 8 misses per attempt of the one level available in the game. Picking up power ups help you kill all on screen or move faster, earn more points, or even take away lives. I’m not sure what I was expecting from this game honestly but it wasn’t this.

2014-08-20-06-18-06Graphics and Sound:
The graphics in this game are on par with everything else. Not bad, not great, just average There isn’t anything that really stands out about this game other than the name. The sound at first is a mixture between generic and interesting. The backing track is generic and repetitive. The sound effects are entertaining at first but then also get annoying. There are comments by the people as they are getting booted are funny at first and then you want to either not play the game or play the game without sound.

Overall, Nothing about this game stands out except the name the name alone made kind of excited to play this game only to be extremely disappointed later when i actually did. The graphics, sound effects and music combine to make this game middle of the road average, nothing really stands out. At 99 cents not really worth the time or effort to download and play this game. 3 out of 5

Mobile Monday: Clash of Clans Review.

Welcome to Mobile Monday: Clash of Clans Review. This new weekly-ish post will feature a new mobile game review brought by Me, Chachi Says! The video game themed post will be moved to Tuesday so you’ll get more words from the genius mind of Chachi!

The first of the games to be reviewed is going to be Clash of Clans. *Warning: This is a freeium game. Meaning that you can play without paying or you can buy your way to power! So if you or someone you know are prone to pumping out moneys for games like this maybe stay away.*

Game: Clash Of Clans
Developer: Supercell
Platform: Android, iOS.

I came across the game the same as most of the other players did. Supercell advertised the hell out of this game. You could not turn on a media form of any kind and not hear the name Clash of Clans. I would turn on tv, slacker radio, Facebook, it was everywhere.  As most things of video game nature if you cram it down my throat chances are ill play it at least once. In fact while playing a different game an ad for this game just came up.(Except Farmville, i have never and will never play Farmville)

The object of this game is like other games of the genre. Build the kingdom, Rule the other players, be the most powerful. The only difference in Combat Strategy games is the setting in which the game takes place. Whether fantasy or based on reality the games never change much.

The game is a simple touch and play game.  Collect elixir and gold to use to build and upgrade your kingdom. Building up the collection points to build more. Gaining an army consisting of Barbarians, Archers, Goblins, Giants, Wall Breakers, Balloon, Wizards, Healer, Dragon, Pekka.  The higher the soldier rating the more room it takes up in the barracks and ultimately the less soldiers and longer the generation time takes. Same with building and upgrading as all games in this genre go. Thats were the pay to play comes in. Buy gems to speed up all productions or wait it out.

There are two gameplay modes in the Clash of Clans. Single player in which you take on hordes of goblins using your army or you can take on other players and climb the ranks to number 1. The battle gameplay leaves a bit to be desired. No matter the outcome of the battle the troops used in battle are gone. After which you must generate more. Another downfall is not being able to control what the troops attack. So the troops run in and attack the closest object regardless of defenses in place.

Graphics: The high point of this game is the art work. For being a mobile game the art work is fantastic. As shown in the pictures i screenshot from the game. I keep coming back for the graphics.

Overall: Had this game not been crammed down my throat via advertising i probably wouldn’t have played it. However, i do continue to play it because honestly its a lot of waiting. So the game doesn’t take up much of your time. Not the typical mobile style. The gameplay itself leaves something to be desired in that you should be able to control at least to some point the troop movement and attack pattern. Overall, probably not the mobile game you are looking for. However, not a bad game, just not a great game. Chachi gives this 2.5 out of 5.

Video Game Themed things from around the Internet…net…net!

Alright, so we still couldn’t get Sorg to wrestle a bear. However, we have another exciting edition of Video Game Themed things from around the Internet…net…net! Im your host Chachi, lets get on with the show!

First up this week, artist Andrew Ryan from right here on deviant art decided to reimagine the characters from the Final Fantasy series as if they are Pokemon Trainers! Here is the main cast from FFVII.

Amazing work. Go to his page and check out the rest of his art!

Next up: Musician on youtube created an amazing music video and did The History of Video game music metal style!

I love covers of music. All music. The Punk goes series is one of my favorite. i give this guy 10 out of 10. Put it on in the back ground and just listen away!

Last but not least! This is not a new series but i think its one worth pointing out for you all to watch and subscribe too. The Game Theorist proclaims to be “The Smartest Show in Gaming” and i agree. He takes things from gaming and points out things that we normally wouldn’t think about. The one i put in is about Skyrim’s famous quote “I used to be an adventurer and then i took an arrow to the knee” and proves how it is true. Other theories Mario is a commie, The worth of Diamond armor in Minecraft and How deadly is Bullet Bill.

He goes through and uses math and physics to determine whether or not each theory is plausible. Check it out.

That’s all i have for you this week, tune in next week for more gaming themed goodness and Rizz wrestles a trouser snake…. Wait, no he doesn’t. Thanks for reading Video Game Themed things from around the Internet…net…net!

Chachi Plays for the Arts.

Why the arts?

People raise money for all sorts of things now a days, and thats beyond awesome. I try to support as many as possible whenever possible. I however choose to raise money for the arts. Art programs of all types are constantly losing funding all over the country. Kids everywhere are losing out on the opportunity to participate in art programs that will help them perform better in all aspects of their lives.

Kids who participate in art programs of any type are:

– 4 times as likely to be recognized for academic achievement

– 3 times as likely to be recognized for school attendance.

– Read for pleasure nearly twice as often

– Perform community service more than four times as often

– helps all students develop more appreciation and understanding of the world around them

– helps students develop a positive work ethic and pride in a job well done

– can help troubled youth, providing an alternative to destructive behavior and another way for students to approach learning

Just to name a few positive aspects of participating in any kind of art program. When budgets get balanced and shortfalls come in, The arts are usually the first to go. That’s why its important for other organizations to step in but the money isn’t always there and they too depend on help. Which is where i come in!

Chachi Plays is a way for me to put my gaming time to good use. I play for 24 hours for donations that all go to art programs each and every donation is appreciated and welcome! Just click the donate button at the top and help us out please! AND! as a bonus:

A Donation of $50 dollars or more gets you a slot to come down in person and play a game of your choice with me! Hang out, chat a bit and have some fun.

A donation of $25 dollars or more gets you an entry in one of three tournaments that we hold through out the 24 hours! Tetris, Mario Kart or Street Fighter are the games, do you have what it takes? Prove it! Place in the top 3 and win one of the custom Chachi Plays medals seen here!

Hit that donate button and toss a few bucks in the bucket!

Games for Gold kicking the year off big! And a helpful tip.

After ending on a slow note last month with Shoot Many Robots as the last free game for gold members of 2013, Xbox comes up strong in January with the next batch of free games.

Starting yesterday and through the 14th the free game for gold members is Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping dogs is an open world, action adventure game in which you try to infiltrate the Triad gang. The game did mediocre sales wise when released but was a popular new IP. The other game being given away this month starting on the 15th is Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light the download only title that was released on Xbox live, Steam and PSN.

So it seems as if they are off to a great start for the year. Also, as a reminder if you want these games and dont have time to play them if you confirm the purchase and cancel the download you will have these games available to you even after they are not available for free.

Handheld Gaming Systems or Smart Phones?

The first to merge gaming and phones…noble taco phone.

With the announcement of Playstation’s new Vita TV yesterday and the iPhone 5S and C today, it got me thinking,  Is it more practical to game on the go with a handheld system like a Vita or 3DS or just a smart phone whether it be an android or an iPhone?  Let’s start with you phone… well it’s a phone, it can do things that a handheld system can’t. It can do so much more than a console, You can check twitter, you can take pictures, vine videos (on some phones) The only drawback is that the graphics on phones have not caught up to the graphics on handheld systems, Another plus with smart phones the games are a lot cheaper, you can get a really great high res graphic game on a phone for about $6.99 and some smaller more fun games for about $.99 per game.

The announcement of the 2DS shows that Nintendo is marketing more towards children and that’s a good thing, because kids need to game, but what about games for us adults.  Nintendo is one of the greatest game companies in the world, not so much based on their hardware but mostly for the games.   I think Sony and Nintendo are both firing back at smartphones with the announcements of the 2DS and Vita TV which has the capabilities similar to The WII U in which you’ll be able to go to any room to continue your gaming session if you choose to.  It also uses cloud technology to stream vita games on your tv, which is a pretty neat idea.  What do think of all the announcements recently, and do you think that it’s more viable to game on the go on your phone, or a handheld system?  Let us know in the comments!

Gaming Movie Round up!

I’m back! Finished with Chachi Plays and back to the grind.

I’ve watched a few video game themed movies recently and decided I should fill you in on the last few gaming flicks and give you my thoughts and opinions.

Instead of giving the rundown of the plot and making you read a bunch of words, I’ll throw the trailers up as an intro for the flicks.

The first is “Wreck-It Ralph”. Now I know this movie has been out for a while but it still needs to be mentioned here in my recently seen gaming movies post because well… I have probably watched it 20 times….

The story, characters and cameos in this movie are hard to pass up. As always coming from Disney the animation lives up to par and this time the story fits and is highly enjoyable. This movie is fun for all ages. It was proven in the theatre when I went to go see it as all child activities of the non movie watching type ceased when the movie started and so did i. Every moment from the major plot lines to the quick character appearances make this a movie to enjoy. 5/5

Next up is Video Game High School.

The trailer is an accurate representation of how ridiculous this movie really is. However, the ridiculous is what makes the movie. Despite the fact that this is a movie directed at kids it is definitely worth a watch. With stars from Tv show Chuck making appearances including Zach levy and Internet stars such as iJustine and Epic meal Times Harley Morenstein. This movie is completely kid friendly changing such details as parties not having booze but pounding energy drinks and s’ing my d to styling my do. Fun for the whole family. 3/5

Up last but not lease is Noobz!

A movie about a team of Gears of Wars players heading to the show! Including wacky shenanigans, Frogger and strippers! Starring Jay Mewes as pretty much himself as he usually is and Zelda Williams living up to why she was given the name. My only gripe with the movie is the ending. they should’ve gone with some else but eh they wrote it. 4/5

Skullcandy gets into the Gaming realm.

Don’t freak out. They aren’t making games. They have started making gaming headsets at all price ranges.

PLYR 1 – $180

PLYR 2 – $130

SLYR – $80

Looking pretty good there if i may say so myself. The differences between the level of price the PLYR 1 is dolby digital PLYR 2 is not. both are wireless and the SLYR is not. Pretty pricey but comparable to Turtle beach and most likely the same quality.
