Rizz Reviews: Hyrule Warriors

When they showed this game at E3, I saw it and there was no interest in getting this game. It was one of those niche games that just didn’t phase me. I mean, I was and am a Legend of Zelda fan but the thought of another type of a Zelda game just kind of turned me off from that idea. I played Dynasty Warriors one other time, I think, and didn’t think of anything beyond that.

When I first saw the gameplay trailers, though, things started to shift a bit. You will notice a little excitement in my words when I was talking about playing as Impa, it wasn’t manufactured. I was damn excited that I get to play as that lovely excuse of a lady carrying a big sword and messing baddies up with it. But in that excitement, I still wasn’t excited to play this game.

That changed when I saw I got to play as Ganondorf.

When I saw Ganondorf as a playable character, I wanted this game in my collection. So…

…it is.

The game is what an HD Zelda game should look like. It just looks pretty. One hundred and ten percent more than what I thought this game was going to look like at E3. The Wii U makes Hyrule Warriors look really good and, well, it’s one of best visually game I’ve seen for the Wii U.

Play-wise, it is different.

When I say this game plays differently than any other Zelda game, it’s not CD-i different…it’s a different that rejuvenates a gaming franchise. However, when your rejuvenated game franchise is THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, Hyrule Warriors has made the Zelda franchise look good and is one big pile of awesome. It is also a great filler for Zelda U, which is scheduled to come out sometime next year.

The only weird thing I don’t like is that there are multiple stories that are going on at one time during the scene. You could be fighting one group of people and then it randomly goes over and tells you that you have to go to the entire side of the map and save an area that you saved before. However, if you don’t get there and defend the base (while you’re also facing the main boss) the game is over and you have to start it over.

If you have a Wii U, pick this game up. You won’t regret it.

Fav Five Friday: Non-Playable Playable Characters

In the world of Hyrule Warriors, you not only get to play as Hyrule’s favorite warrior, Link, but you also get to play as a plethora of other individual mainstays in the world of Zelda. All of which have different abilities, powers and prowess…also you get to play as Ganondorf. Ganondorf. Which brings me to my Top 5 list of people who I would like to play as in other game series.

Now, the way that I am going to do this is that if there’s a part in the game where you CAN play as that person, you can play as that person. However, party games are not considered games in this. That’s not what I’m going for. I’m talking about awesome characters in video games that you REALLY want to play…but can’t. Let’s begin, shall we?

5. Tingle – Let’s start with the one most people want to see in Hyrule Warriors. Tingle is the chunky guy that you always has to save off of the balloon but also, somehow, has magical powers. I wouldn’t mind playing as him somewhere down the line, even if it is Hyrule Warriors (seeing how you can play as a lot of other characters). It would be an interesting addition to that game.

4. Dr. Wily and crew – Would you like an origin story of the scientist who created the robots? It could be an awesome strategy game where you get control of your creations and try to take out Mega Man and try to, you know, take over the world!

3. Batarians – Batarians hate humans. That’s apparent. However, Commander Shepard has teamed with people who tried to kill him, Cerberus and the Geth, GETH! So why not have one straggler from the race that hates humans join up with Shepard and the rest of the crew? It would only make…sense?

2. Waluigi – Where’s the Waluigi game?! I mean, we have Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad and Wario all have variations of their very own video game. All we know about Waluigi is that…well…he likes Tennis….and knows how to ride a Kart pretty damn good, ain’t that right Chachi?

1. BLASTO! – Enkindle This.

Who would you like to play as in any game? Leave it in the comments below.

Enjoy Hyrule Warriors!

Impa and Her Giant Sword Wins

Hyrule Warriors, the cross of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, have been getting a ton of buzz around the Nintendo world, as it is Nintendo’s first Zelda game for the Wii U. It’s an interesting concept on paper and one that will be interesting to see how well it turns out. However, Nintendo is doing a damn good job promoting Hyrule Warriors by releasing character video after character video.

Here’s Link’s:

Here’s Zelda’s (by the way, in Hyrule Warriors she is now QUEEN ZELDA):

But the one person who, honestly, will get more playing time just based off of her trailer isn’t Link and it isn’t Zelda. IT’S THE BAD ASS THAT IS IMPA AND HER GIANT SWORD!

If anything, this may be my favorite character in the game and tremendously improved Impa’s image in Zelda lure. In both Skyward Sword and OoT you got the sense that she was a bad ass, but you barely see her in action…I don’t know about you but I want to get more background on Zelda’s protector. NOW I want an Impa only game! Nintendo can make this happen, for sure.

We know some of the playable characters in this, there are more playable characters to be announced. A name that is getting thrown around like Blasto being a playable character in Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer is the one and only Tingle.
