Chachi Says Console Review: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate!

Welcome to another Chachi Says Console review: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate! Pausing my vacation to throw up a review of the latest edition of Assassin’s Creed game for all of you. Assassin’s Creed is one of the few games that make me want to buy a new system for and i did. My main worry about doing so is wondering if the game is worth it. It is. 100 percent worth it as far as Assassin’s creed games go. I am going to do my best to not spoil any major plot lines in the game while doing this. Lets get to it!

Game: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Developer: Ubisoft

Platform: Xbox One

Relive the Memory of an assassin in history to stop the templar attempts at world domination.

Game Play:

If you are up to date on your Assassin’s Creed games then you know since Desmond there hasn’t been an up front out of Animus character. This does not change here you are playing yet another unknown person helping the assassin’s stop the current day Templars by reliving past assassins. This time the game takes place in London 1868. For the first time you play as assassin brother and sister Jacob and Evie Frye looking to take back London from templar control for the first time in 100 years. You are able to switch between the two and roam the streets as whichever sibling you want. Which i think is a great adjustment to the game series allowing you to play a strong female lead.

evieAll of the side missions and collection quests are still here with an assortment of npc characters to help you along the way as long as you help them as usual. (My favorite being Robert Topping aka “Bookie Bob” he controls the fight clubs and races throughout the city.) The gang aspect of the series has returned allowing you to reclaim the city as you go all from the constantly rolling train headquarters through different aspects. Gang headquarter, stopping child labor and kidnapping criminals for arrest help you claim back the city.

The free run aspect has been tweaked a bit adding different buttons for up and down travel which stops from the many accidental jumps and death falls. The introduction of a zip line gun allows for quicker free run travel and makes you feel like an assassin spider man (in my opinion) making it more fun to travel the rooftops. There is no ship travel or just plain horse travel in this entry but it has been replaced with Horse and carriage travel. Allowing you to travel the city in this method as a pre car GTA style. You have to remember that it is london so be sure to drive on the correct side of the road. Yes, i am speaking from experience, i spent 10 mins getting irritated because there was alway oncoming traffic….

The usual introduction of historic characters continue as you help Charles Dickens, Queen Victoria, Karl Marx and more accomplish the things they are are known for as well as a glitch in the animus memory that allows you to help Winston Churchill fight WW1.acgp1Ubisoft also added in a skills upgrade section allowing you to grow a bit at a time as you see fit for each character, and gang skill upgrade to help maintain control of the city. This adds to the crafting aspect of the game making it harder to decide what you want to concentrate your money and resources on in the game.

Sound and Graphics:

The sound and graphics are exactly what they need to be. The update to the graphics to match the current gen console are right on point. The sound and music from the time period provide a completely immersive environment for you to enjoy. The attention to detail in the graphics of this game will be noticed. i spent a lot of time looking for real life locations in 1868.

Overall, the game play, story, sound and graphics are exactly what you are expecting on this gen of Assassin’s Creed games. The details along with the changes in the right elements of game play make for an enjoyable game from start to finish. I hope when a new AC game comes out that i find it to be the best entry in the series thus far and it did not let me down. I give this a hard 5 out of 5 and recommend that you get it if you can.

There is a town that is the basis of the Silent hill movie adaptation and it is right here in Pa.

Centralia, PA. Home to a Mine Fire in 1962. The underground mines have been on fire since. The last effort to put out the mine fire was in 1992 and the state claimed all of the property in the town to condemn all of the buildings and relocate the residents. They finally gave up in 2013 when a court stated that the remaining residents could live out their lives in this town. There is currently 10 people in 5 households that live in Centralia who still hold regular borough council meetings to determine the fate of the town despite the zip code for the town being revoked in 2002. It’s a interesting read over at Kotaku!

Chachi Says Console Review: Yoshi’s Woolly World!

Welcome to another Chachi Says Console review! This time we are taking a look at the newly released Yoshi’s Woolly World. Now a lot of people will judge the adults that buy and play This game based on looks alone and you’d be right. The game looks like a basic kids game but completely worth the judgements. I got the edition that came with the yarn knitted Yoshi amiibo for 60 dollars. I also bought the pink one for the fiance because yarn knitted yoshi is something everyone needs!(also this took my total amiibo count up to 2.) Let’s get to Chachi Says Console Review: Yoshi’s Woolly World!

yoshiGame: Yoshi’s Woolly World

Developer: Nintendo

Platform: Wii U

Collect the stolen yarn to recreate all of the Yoshi from Craft island.

Game Play:

Magikoopa Kamek is back and causing havoc on Craft island this time. He has disassembled tons of the yarn Yoshis and is trying to escape with the yarn for his own evil uses. Travel across the different sectors of craft island and defeat the legions of shy guys, koopas and magically enhanced enemies courtesy of Kamek. Much like Yoshi’s Island you collect lots of items per level, 5 flowers, 5 yarns, 20 stamp gems and 20 hearts per level to star it and unlock a bonus level for each sector.

The level layouts are that of Yoshi’s island and the story is the same minus the potential for a crying baby Mario which in my opinion makes the game much better. The controls in the game are exactly the same except for the fact that it is on a different controller. The game play in general is exactly the same as Yoshi’s Island which is where my problem with the game lies however it gets made up with the incredible graphics of the game.

On each level you collect gems that can be used to buy power ups at the beginning of each level to help you along the way.  Every so often you unlock more that help you specifically with the world you are playing. things like pit rescue, unlimited watermelon, and ability to withstand lava damage are just a few examples.

The amiibo do not do much for the actual game other than allowing you to add another yoshi to your screen giving you double the Yoshi. You can also scan in other amiibo for Yoshi themed mario, samus, Toad, etc etc. The list goes on. Like other amiibo you can use the yoshi in a variety other games for cool effects. i used it in Mario Maker to create a yarn yoshi mushroom.

Sound and Graphics:

This is where the game gets super creative. The background, enemies and all interactive objects in the game are designed to look like it’s hand made. The graphics in this game are incredible. There are a lot of objects that look as if they were merely arranged and filmed for the game. The idea in the graphics style is what got me interested into the game from the beginning and most likely what the selling point of the game will always be. Well, that and you know, Yoshi! The sound is classic Yoshi noises and backing track round out the experience into a new crafty way. The sound effects and music mesh well with the game play

Overall, the game play/story leaves a little to be desired because it seems to be essentially Yoshi’s island but the graphics and sound more than make up for it. A wonderfully creative way to display a game for both the old and new audience alike. All in all an enjoyable experience. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Chachi responds to Rizz Rant: Pixels!

So Rizz wrote this:

I can respond now.

I know on the outside the ICTB family seems like a cohesive unit that gets along nicely, that’s not entirely true. We argue all the time. Rizz is usually wrong. I usually let his wrongness go, but he wrote a rant about Pixels, again I typically would let it go. However, he NEVER WATCHED THE MOVIE! How can you review a movie without seeing said movie? A movie is not the 2 minute trailers. So I sat down and watched the movie.

Now to shutdown Rizz.

Pixels was written by Tim Herlihy, Tim Dowling, Patrick Jean. Not Adam Sandler. Produced by a total of 19 people, one of which was Adam Sandler, but let’s be honest it was title only. Adam Sandler wasn’t the casting director either so really the only thing he did was act which is what someone hired him to do. The only reason Rizz jumped on Adam Sandler’s hate wagon was because that’s the “cool thing to do on the internet these days” No one complained with Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky, Big Daddy the list goes on and on. Most of the people hating on him haven’t seen the great films he has done such as Reign over me or Funny People. Not every movie an actor does is going to be a hit but to poo all over him for anything he does is uncalled for.

Shut it Rizz. next time watch a movie before you review it.

indexThe cast in this movie is exactly what you expect. 4 super ass nerdy guys who are into video games. It’s the classic tale of NASA sending samples of earth life to space in hopes that a friendly alien life form sees it and communicates nicely with earth and helps us become super advances. However it all backfires when the alien life form tries to kill everything using our beloved video games.

The plot was solid and the sound track matched the movie. The movie was entertaining from start to finish. I’ll probably watch it again sooner rather than later to pick up the little things that I may have missed. It was an awesome take on what originally was just an internet short. This is the movie premise we needed.

here is the original short for reference.

Until next time I only have one thing to say.

Let the nerds take over!

Chachi Says Console Review: Super Mario Maker!

Welcome to a very special edition of the Chachi Says review series in which i sit down to review my first Wii U game, Super Mario Maker! We pre ordered and received this game on release day because well it’s an intriguing game from Nintendo. I haven’t been this excited about a new release since the last Call of Duty game. Let’s get to it! Welcome to Chachi Says Console Review: Super Mario Maker!

You start with unboxing the game. The game comes in a full cardboard box not just the plastic case because Nintendo included what they are calling a Mario coffee table book. It includes drawings and diagrams of creator possibilities that are good enough to be ripped out and framed. You can get the book here. It was uploaded by Nintendo for fans to download.

Game: Super Mario Maker

Developer: Nintendo

Platform: Wii U

Create or play others custom Mario Levels.

toolsGame Play:

The game starts with teaching you how to play the game. I don’t mean You press start game and read a tutorial, i mean you turn on the game and it puts you in an incomplete Mario level and walks you through finishing the level, while showing you the tools and then makes you complete the level.  From this point on you are free to do what you like. Now you don’t start with all of the usable content as is normal in a dyi type game. The longer you play the more you unlock. You start with Super Mario Brothers and Super Mario Bros U. level 1-1 styles and backgrounds. As you play you unlock more backgrounds and items for both styles. You can also unlock more styles as you play to include Super Mario World and Super Mario Brothers 3. Using what you unlock not only gives you more to add to the levels but also helps you unlock more items then next day.

creatorThere is also play mode in which you play the other player creations. This is where the game truly comes alive. Never have i heard someone say man, i have played way too much Mario because that is not a possible statement to be made. You have the ability to play, rank and comment on the levels you play but most people don’t bother.  Along with the normal search and play ability there is also the 10 and 100 Mario challenge. This challenges you to play and beat 8(for easy) or 16(for hard) player created Mario Levels with 10, or 100 Mario lives. Doing so will earn you mystery mushroom unlocks. Mystery mushrooms are a power shroom that you can assign silly costumes to. Dr. Mario, Link, Sonic, Kirby, Yoshi, Goombas…just to name a few. You can add these to your level and have Mario Transform into one of these special unlocks. they don’t provide any special ability but are cool nonetheless.

Sound and Graphics:

Its a Mario game that allows you to control the levels in a Mario game. The music and graphics are that of whichever game style you are creating with. There is also unlockables as you play the game allowing you to add special sound effects both already created and custom recordings for the sounds that you set for select actions. You can also unlock graphic effects such as fireworks and overall effects like haunted house scenes to scare your players into a panic.

This is everything you want in a DYI game. The ability to control the content in a Mario game, or playing what other people have created in a Mario game is something that should’ve happened a long time ago, however im glad they waited until technology was awesome to do it. As usual the graphics and sound come together but that goes without saying. I could do the overall like normal and say that everything meshes but its a Mario game so we know it meshes. I reached out to people that i know have played the game to get what they think about the game.

Rizz:  It’s a refreshing look at one of Nintendo’s oldest franchises and puts a spin on the fan created content that’s been out for years. 5 out of 5

Chick_Chris: Very Fun. Highly recommend. Good for all ages. 4.8 because i want all of the things now.

I give this game a 5 out of 5. A great new idea on one of Gaming’s mainstay. A great spin on the DYI game style and tons of fun.

5outof5Thanks for tuning into Chachi Says Console Review: Super Mario Maker! Ive got to get back to making Mario!

Friday Fun Mobile Review: Catan!

Welcome to this week’s Friday Fun Mobile Review: Catan! We had some friends over for dinner(i was excited to try a new recipe) and general merriment. Fuzzy(of ictb fame) brought over a board Game I had heard and recently thought about buying calling Catan. I got my ass kicked but had fun doing it. Afterwards I came across a news item stating it was out and updated for mobile devices, talked about fate. Picked it up and this is the review.

TitleGame: Catan

Developer: USM

Platforms: Android, iOS

Gain enough victory points to become the Lord of Catan.

Game play:

The game rules are those of the board game. You can find them online if you want the full details and details of play but the premise is simple. Collect resources to build and gain the required victory points to win the game.

MapThe game has 3 game modes, campaign, custom and online mode. Campaign mode takes the general gameplay and adds bonuses for accomplishing certain tasks. Custom and online are just that. Create your own game with custom rules or play online against others to prove your dominance.

Just like any video game adaptation of a board game it’s just the game animated and available so you don’t have to setup the actual game and so you can play against ai.

tradeGraphics and sound:

Simple animations and music are all that’s really needed here and that’s what you get. You can’t expect too much when getting an animated version of a board game. The animations they did are well done and combine nicely with the sound effects and conquering style music track in the background.

Overall, everything combined nicely to make an on the go version of this popular board game. There is some cost associated with this game. You pay for the basic app and expansion packs but it’s nothing in comparison to the 50 or so you would pay to buy the actual game and expansions and this way you don’t need to have friends over constantly to play. Play when you want! If you have no interest in the board game it’s probably not for you. However if you like the board game then buy this, you’ll enjoy it. I give it a 4 out of 5 coins.
