Fav Five Friday: Games To Look For This E3*

*That we already know will be announced.

E3 is inching so close to us we can taste it. In fact, we are three months away from E3 and somewhere Gabe Newell just had a heart attack.

However, let us not waste precious time! June is right around the corner and THIS is your top 5 games to watch forat this year’s E3 event.

Now, the rules are different. Instead of listing 5 things, I am actually going to pick one from each major category (EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony). Let’s begin,  shall we?

MICROSOFT – Minecraft: Story Mode. For those of you who don’t know, Minecraft is now the property of Microsoft so I would not be surprised if this game gets announced at Microsoft’s E3. Also, it will be interesting to see how this game will look and feel, being it’s a story based game based off of a game that’s a free world based game.

SONY – Uncharted 4. This will be needed for a good E3 for Sony, as it was learned earlier this week that Uncharted’s release date was pushed back to 2016. Which blows. Hard. Maybe show some Beta footage along with a commercial. Get me excited to play this game, as I never had a PlayStation when Uncharted was a thing. It will be interesting to see how they turn this negative into a positive.

NINTENDO – (TIE) Zelda and Star Fox. Nintendo has hyped both of these games to no end ever since they were playing the open world Zelda game. I believe this is the time where Nintendo comes out guns a-blazing and shows us EVERYTHING about these two games. I want more, of course. Instead of watching some guy watch a green screen pretending he’s playing, play the game. DO A BARRELL ROLL! Oh God, I hope I actually get to play as Fox this time from the beginning and not ride a pterodactyl or something.

UBISOFT – Guess. I will give you three easy guesses on what I’m excited to see more information about. Show me something from Assassin’s Creed: Victory and my money will be tossed in your general direction, Ubisoft…it’s…it’s probably west. Do I need to tell you how Assassin’s Creed is going to be once Ubisoft announce it and show things from it? Hopefully no bugs, though. We don’t want that. I mean, look at England. LOOK AT IT!

ELECTRONIC ARTS: Mass. Effect. Four. Mass. Effect. Four. Mass. Effect. Four. Last year all we had was conception art, if this year is gameplay footage I will not be able to control my body. At all. I don’t expect gameplay, as it’s still quite possibly in the early early stages of development but man…I am a big Mass Effect fan and I don’t even know what to expect from this game. Do my choices in the first three games matter? Is Shepard in this? Is he not? Is this a prequel? Sequel? Do I play as a Prothean? Gah! Just tell me already!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Top 5 Most Wanted Games in 2015

Normally during this time, we all like to look back at the good and the bad of the previous year. However, when have I did anything normal? 2015 looks like it’s going to be a good year for video games and here comes my top five (I know it’s not Friday) of video games that I (and you) am waiting for the next year:

5. Splatoon – Hold up! What?! A Nintendo exclusive? That’s not Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Toad, or Yoshi?! Wha?! Nintendo, what are you doing?! In all fairness, this game looks like it’s going to be an amazing plug in and play with your friends type of game. It reminds me of Paintball mode in GoldenEye but the bullets aren’t just pellets of paint, but entire paint buckets.

4. Battlefield: Hardline – I’ve been unimpressed with the Call of Duty franchise, as of late and have always wanted to play Battlefield. Hardline looks like a good game to start with, as it is a different look at this kind of FPS and moving away from actual war. Hardline is more cops and robbers and it still looks amazing. Battlefield: Hardline hits stores in March.

3. Legend of Zelda – Now, there’s no name for this…yet. Does there have to be? They could just name this “The Legend of Zelda: Worst Game Ever” and I’m still going to buy this game. When they announced this at E3, it was already known that it was going to be played A LOT during the new year. Zelda U has only got my anticipation up and up and up and I just can’t wait to see what they did to make it look beautiful. It is looking to be a great year for Nintendo, it’s going to be topped off by this video game.

Now, before I get to my last game, I’m going to branch out for a moment and give you one of the UPDATES that I am really looking forward to in 2015 and I bet you know what I am going to say. HEISTS ARE FINALLY COMING! THE HEISTS IN GTA HAVE BEEN THE MOST ANTICIPATED THING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND FINALLY HEISTS WILL BE A THING! BUT WHEN?! WHEN ROCKSTAR!? WHEEEEENNNNN!?

1. Bloodborne – There’s a reason why I got a PS4. It wasn’t for a newer and crispier Destiny, it wasn’t for MLB: The Show. However, it was for the chance to play one of the most anticipated games of 2015. Bloodborne. You know why? Because I am the one of the selected few that enjoyed (and defeated) Dark Souls II. I’m going to spend a gigantic amount of time on this one and will probably destroy my life while doing so but that’s why I loved Dark Souls so much and, more than likely, enjoy this game even more…for the challenge.

What games are you looking forward to in 2015?

Have a safe and awesome 2015!

Rizz Reviews: Hyrule Warriors

When they showed this game at E3, I saw it and there was no interest in getting this game. It was one of those niche games that just didn’t phase me. I mean, I was and am a Legend of Zelda fan but the thought of another type of a Zelda game just kind of turned me off from that idea. I played Dynasty Warriors one other time, I think, and didn’t think of anything beyond that.

When I first saw the gameplay trailers, though, things started to shift a bit. You will notice a little excitement in my words when I was talking about playing as Impa, it wasn’t manufactured. I was damn excited that I get to play as that lovely excuse of a lady carrying a big sword and messing baddies up with it. But in that excitement, I still wasn’t excited to play this game.

That changed when I saw I got to play as Ganondorf.

When I saw Ganondorf as a playable character, I wanted this game in my collection. So…

…it is.

The game is what an HD Zelda game should look like. It just looks pretty. One hundred and ten percent more than what I thought this game was going to look like at E3. The Wii U makes Hyrule Warriors look really good and, well, it’s one of best visually game I’ve seen for the Wii U.

Play-wise, it is different.

When I say this game plays differently than any other Zelda game, it’s not CD-i different…it’s a different that rejuvenates a gaming franchise. However, when your rejuvenated game franchise is THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, Hyrule Warriors has made the Zelda franchise look good and is one big pile of awesome. It is also a great filler for Zelda U, which is scheduled to come out sometime next year.

The only weird thing I don’t like is that there are multiple stories that are going on at one time during the scene. You could be fighting one group of people and then it randomly goes over and tells you that you have to go to the entire side of the map and save an area that you saved before. However, if you don’t get there and defend the base (while you’re also facing the main boss) the game is over and you have to start it over.

If you have a Wii U, pick this game up. You won’t regret it.

Throw Back Thursday: Astyanax

On the latest episode I stated that Silver Surfer was our generation’s Dark Souls.  The more I thought about it, The more I remembered playing a game that was very similar to the style of Dark Souls. While there are two very different versions of this game, we’re going to focus on the Nintendo version.  Astyanax was a Nintendo Entertainment System game released in 1990 by Jaleco,  The game was set in a dimension called Remlia, and focused on a 16 year old High School student that was transported into the dimension along with a fairy named cutie to rescue Princess Rosebud from the evil wizard Blackhorn.  While the game had a very fantasyesque story it was a very difficult game.  The boss battles and even the levels themselves were tough enough to be one of the most difficult NES games of the era.

AstyanaxBoss1astyanaxboss2I think if this game was remade today I think the bosses and difficulty level of Astyanax make this game as close to Dark Souls as a game would be today.  There were many bosses in the game that were fantasy themed bosses like Medusa and Dragons and skeletons.  With the added elements of the fairy maybe you could throw a lighthearted style of graphics like Legend of Zelda, a cross between Dark Souls and Legend of Zelda would, I think, be the best way to present this game in today’s generation of consoles. With how the weapons would be upgraded and potions and everything else, I think it would be a success. How would you remake this classic NES game?  Have you played this game?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

On second thought, I still think Silver Surfer is our generation’s Dark Souls…

Silver Surfer

With the new video game that features both Zelda and her male doppelganger, Sheik (that’s right, in Hyrule Warriors you are able to play as Sheik AND Zelda…alongside Ganondorf…Ganondorf), there was a new spark in the debate on what gender is Sheik? That’s right, the conspiracy theorists have come out in full force on this one, claiming that in Manga lore, Sheik is actually considered a male. Male body parts, male figure, male everything. However when in video games, the place where the Legend of Zelda comes from, it may come to shock some of you (and hopefully I’m not spoiling this one for you) but the Sheiky-baby is actually Zelda.

That’s right, right? I mean, I didn’t have something dropped on my head only to imagine Sheik taking off his…her…her(?) scarf?

Yet, there were still people still convinced that Zelda was not Sheik and that the Sheik was his…her…his identity and for months upon months.

You know how deep it’s got? I’ll tell you: THE HIGHER UPS AT NINTENDO! That’s right, they had to bother the big whigs of Nintendo in order to get their answer. You know what they said? Here’s Bill Trinen:

“The definitive answer is that Sheik is a woman — simply Zelda in a different outfit.”

There ya go!

Look, if I am wrong…please tell me right now but the way that I look at it, you always have to look at where the source of the material is coming from. Kind of like if you find a leak, you go down and plug the leak. I’m not going to talk about the manga portion of the story because, as you all well know, manga isn’t where the Legend of Zelda started, hence manga is not the leak’s originator. The Zelda originator started in video games, so MY timeline and MY appreciation for the story goes towards the Zelda video games for the Zelda Manga.

IT’S A GAME! WHO CARES IF HE IS A SHE OR SHE’S A HE OR SHE’S A SHE! Why are we having this in depth conversation about whether or not Sheik is a lady, even though it was found out in OoT that Sheik was Zelda? Who came up with this question? I know who, someone who doesn’t know how timelines work (just like magnets).

Now, if they find out that Zelda actually had Sheik killed and stole his clothes, then I would agree. But, as of right now, when Nintendo says “Sheik is Zelda” then you should know that SHEIK IS ZELDA!

Finish this word problem: Sheik is Zelda. Zelda is Sheik. Zelda is a female. Therefor, Sheik is ________.

What are your conspiracy theories about video games? Leave it in the comments below. Hopefully it’s something better than the sex of Sheik.

Well as of a few days ago the Internet beat the last generation of the Pokemon series as it completed Pokemon X as a cluster of commands were thrown via chat. As I type this the game of Pokemon Stadium 2 that was happened crashed and all you see is the Aw, Snap window from the browser. Praise Helix.

A glitch in GTA Online that makes grenade launchers extremely powerful as melee weapons leads to some new creative newmade up games. Including Firetruck roulette. Check it out.

Its not farfetched to know that sometimes you find yourself doing silly things while playing games online with your friends. For example riding shotgun giving the driver the finger. Cough Cough Rizz…

Legend of Zelda: Monopoly!

Impa and Her Giant Sword Wins

Hyrule Warriors, the cross of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, have been getting a ton of buzz around the Nintendo world, as it is Nintendo’s first Zelda game for the Wii U. It’s an interesting concept on paper and one that will be interesting to see how well it turns out. However, Nintendo is doing a damn good job promoting Hyrule Warriors by releasing character video after character video.

Here’s Link’s:

Here’s Zelda’s (by the way, in Hyrule Warriors she is now QUEEN ZELDA):

But the one person who, honestly, will get more playing time just based off of her trailer isn’t Link and it isn’t Zelda. IT’S THE BAD ASS THAT IS IMPA AND HER GIANT SWORD!

If anything, this may be my favorite character in the game and tremendously improved Impa’s image in Zelda lure. In both Skyward Sword and OoT you got the sense that she was a bad ass, but you barely see her in action…I don’t know about you but I want to get more background on Zelda’s protector. NOW I want an Impa only game! Nintendo can make this happen, for sure.

We know some of the playable characters in this, there are more playable characters to be announced. A name that is getting thrown around like Blasto being a playable character in Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer is the one and only Tingle.
