Major League Gaming gearing to take center stage?

Major League Gaming gearing to take center stage?

While that question may be jumping the gun a bit it is not far fetched. Look at the platform that gaming has taken recently. This is not something that people make backhanded comments about anymore. These things are in the spotlight, its hard not to be when games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 selling 8 million units in its first week and topping 1 billion dollars in sales in a mere 2 months. Mass Effect 3 matching it its opening week. With video games putting up numbers like that and growing, its time that gaming takes center stage. Look at primetime tv noticing: Community 8 bit scene.

I’d be lying if i said i hoped that another network would’ve been the one to attempt such a thing but alas major network CBS has entered talks with Major League Gaming. This has been stated by both parties to be a preliminary chat but it is a step in the right direction in my opinion. This would shine the light on the hard work and dedication that the developers, designers and artist put into the games that a large portion of the population spend so much time playing.

According to Forbes, advertisers are excited for a match like this, meetings took place at E3 and parties involved are excited. Who wouldn’t be? This is a match made in money heaven! Commercials tailored to a new group. CBS is reportedly reaching out to known pro gamers for event coverage. The CEO of the MLG did say on Twitter that these talks are in the beginning stages and that its just exploration at this time.

I’m excited for this to take place. I realize that it would be an uphill battle for the network but still needs to happen. What are your thoughts on this? Think it would work? Let us know in the Comments below!
