BREAKING NEWS: Two Arrested in During Pokemon World Championships

Normally we don’t cover this stuff but this almost was really, really bad.

worlds-2015-announce-169

Boston Police arrested two men from Iowa, 18-year-old Kevin Norton and 27-year-old James Stumbo in connection to a plot to cause violence during the Pokemon World Championships. The plot was foiled after their plans were found on social media websites.

The Pokemon Company has a statement out about this situation:

“Prior to the event this weekend, our community of players made us aware of a security issue. We gathered information and gave it as soon as possible to the authorities at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center who acted swiftly and spearheaded communication with the Boston Police Department. Due to quick action, the potential threat was resolved. The Pokémon Company International takes the safety of our fans seriously and will continue to ensure proper security measures are a priority.”

The two men were charged with numerous firearm offenses and the supplies they had looked like they were going to do some serious damage if they weren’t caught. In their car, they were found with an AR-15, a 12-gauge shotgun, plenty of ammunition and a hunting knife. If these two guys didn’t get caught early, this could have been really bad. So thanks to the quick response by the Boston PD to the social media threats.
