Social Anxiety, video games, and you!

Star-Wars-Battlefront_2015_05-08-15_002

This weekend I played the Star Wars Battlefront Beta, it was fun, but I chose to play without a microphone, or headset.  I also have been playing Destiny, again without a headset or a microphone.  I may not act like it but I, like many people have some social anxiety when it comes to meeting new people, even in the video game world.

I think this is the reason why I skipped World of Warcraft and other MMOs, I purchased Guild Wars 2 when my PC was able to play computer games, and did most of the quests myself.  I’m not sure why I don’t like to play games with other people.  I’m fine with playing with friends.  My friends and I used to play Call of Duty weekly, almost daily, but I know my friends and I know what they’re going to say pretty much and how they’re going to interact with me.  I kinda play online games running away from strangers.  I guess I’m just programmed like that.

This brings me to my point, most of the time that I have played games online against other people it’s not been a pleasant experience.  Little kids calling me names that they shouldn’t be saying, dude bros, people playing music loudly.  I’m not saying everyone is terrible, I’m sure some people are cool, and I get that not everyone is a terrible person, and part of it is me.  I have social anxieties in real life too, like a lot of people, I’m awkward.

That being said, I want to hear from you, do you have fears and social anxieties when it comes to gaming? Are you afraid to make new friends online?

I’m going to try to be a better gamer, and face my fears.  I’m going to play games with a headset again, and try to make some virtual friends,   Destiny awaits.

EA at E3 2015 recap

This is Brother Sorg once again and I’m here to bring you today’s details from EA’s press conference at E3 2015.

Mass Effect Andromeda

EA kicked off with a Teaser trailer for a Next Gen Mass Effect subtitled Andromeda.

Need for Speed

First up was the new Need for Speed, mentioned as a definitive experience that brings together modes and styles from past titles. Five campaigns having different play styles. Speed, Build, Crew, Style and Outlaw. This one comes out 11.3.2015

Star Wars The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire

Next up is an expansion to Biowares next expansion to their Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic, showing off a shiny new trailer.

Release, 10.27.2015

Unravel

A cute little puzzle platformer following a protagonist made of yarn.

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

GW2 changes the perspective of the game and takes the fight to  the Zombies home, Zomberbia, as they try and defend their home from the plants. Also, theres a Zombie Super Hero, Super Brains.

EA Sports

As always, EA shows off their sports franchises, NHL, NBA, FIFA and Madden, adding some new features to each of them.

Mobile Games

Ea then moved into mobile games, announcing two new games. The first they announced was Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Second was Minions Paradise, the minions are stuck on an island and its up to you to turn it into the vacation they wanted.

Mirrors Edge: Catalyst

The story follows the origin story of the original game’s protagonist, Faith. This prequel will sport an open world to traverse through the city however you like, unlike the separate levels of the original game. It will release early next year on 2.23.2016

Starwars Battlefront

Battlefront was the final game shown off, and it looks amazing. The developers got access to Lucas Arts vault and have recreated everything faithfully to the origional movies to every little detail. From armor, weapon and vehicle design to the way everything sounded in the demo, it seemed like nothing but a faithful recreation of the Star Wars universe. It will drop on 11.17.2015.

The presentation started strong but did get a little boring towards the middle with Sports and Mobile games, lowest point was when Pele came out for Fifa and they had a 10 minute conversation not even related to video games. But it did end strong with Mirrors Edge, Madden, and the one everyone was waiting for, Battlefront.

The EA strikes back.

Gaming giant EA, You know this EA.

EAPoo

Well, the evil crap earning company has wrapped their crap covered hands all over yet another iconic franchise and are destined to lose an epic intergalactic crap throwing contest.

EA games has signed an exclusive deal with LucasFilms to be the exclusive developer of Star Wars Franchise. While it may excite some to know that the Star wars games will still continue to be made, the only comfort that may be received from this announcement is the fact that it is the Bioware division of EA.

EA studios DICE (Battlefield) and Visceral (Dead Space) will both make new games in the popular sci-fi franchise, and BioWare (Star Wars: The Old Republic) will “continue” to work on Star Wars games. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

Along with this Disney announced that Star War games already in development are being shopped out to developers for finishing. Simply stated Star Wars 1313 may still happen. The main question is: Will EA succeed or will the toilet flush on this section of the historical franchise?

Is it really better with Kinect?

Many of us were born with a controller in our hands. whether it be an Atari controller, an NES Controller, Sega Genesis, the list goes on and on. The thought of not having a controller takes a lot of getting used to. The Wii and Playstation Move have controllers as awkward as they are to use at times at least there’s something there.

With the addition of Kinect Star Wars to the Kinect lineup of games it was exciting when we first heard about it. Of course, use the force, take down Stormtroopers a handful at a time, finally be a Jedi like you’ve always wanted to be as a kid. But… dancing… as a Jedi? Sure Kinect is great for dance games, that’s why Dance Central is one of the most popular games for the Kinect. It’s great, but putting dancing in a game that doesn’t belong there just because it’s something that the Kinect does well, I’m not sure that’s the Jedi training I had in mind. The Kinect also does voice control well, This may be the reason that it’s a great idea for Kinect to finally come to Skyrim more on that here

The ability to navigate Skyrim’s menu hands free is words better than just navigating it with a controller, and although kind of embarrassing the dragon shout feature is pretty cool. I don’t know if I’d do it in public but it might work. I know that Kinect was used in Mass Effect and will be used in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and what I saw of that is impressive. Plus we have games coming down the pike like Fable. So what I’m trying to say is it may get better with Kinect in the future, I just don’t want to dance as the king of Albion….

E.A. backs LGBT

The Florida Family Association has made Electronic Arts the target of a letter writing campaign. Stating that extremist force EA to include LGBT content in the games that give the option such as recently released Star Wars and Mass Effect 3 both that allow you to engage in same sex or hetero relationships.

To date the company has reportedly received thousands of letters objecting to the content. Company spokes person stated: “EA has not been pressured by any groups to include LGBT characters in our games. However, we have met with LBGT groups and sponsored industry forums to discuss content and harassment of players in online forums. In short, we do put options for same-sex relationships in our games; we don’t tolerate hate speech on our forums.”

Right on E.A. If this doesn’t help you bounce back after the Poo award than I’m not sure anything will. I for one applaud you Electronic Arts. This is a bold step that someone needed to take to include video games in the dumb fight that is equal rights. What do you think? Do you think E.A. went too far? or Do you agree with their tactics? Star Wars Kinect

Probably the only reason I would go out and buy a new Xbox, Xbox Bundle or even a Kinect(this is a post in itself) is being released April 3rd.

That’s right. Star Wars Kinect is being released on April 3rd. Now here is why I’m tempted to replace everything. 1. R2D2 designed Xbox. 2. C3P0 designed Controller. 3. All those times I’ve spent using the force to open the elevator door, no longer needed!

As you know, with the kinect you are the controller. which means that you swing a light saber, and force throw and please please please if the gods are smiling on us, Force choke.
While im not about to run out and drop the money to replace my gaming station. I am tempted however to buy a kinect. Because as we all know, I am a Sith lord in my mind. Also, the game better let you control the Siths as well or else it’s not fair. Also did I mention that you can control a rancor? Because yes, you can control a rancor. This game has the potential bad ass written all over it.

Check out this cool advertisements for the game as I go and try to move stuff using the force. You will leave us comments below *Jedi mind trick hand motion* yes, I just made the motion.
