First up!

PA_CENTRALIA_NEW

There is a town that is the basis of the Silent hill movie adaptation and it is right here in Pa.

Centralia, PA. Home to a Mine Fire in 1962. The underground mines have been on fire since. The last effort to put out the mine fire was in 1992 and the state claimed all of the property in the town to condemn all of the buildings and relocate the residents. They finally gave up in 2013 when a court stated that the remaining residents could live out their lives in this town. There is currently 10 people in 5 households that live in Centralia who still hold regular borough council meetings to determine the fate of the town despite the zip code for the town being revoked in 2002. It’s a interesting read over at Kotaku!

Are you not religious enough to get up Sunday morning and go to church? Do you wish there was an easier way? Pray no more you lazy lazy person! Gizmodo did a story Rev. Christopher Benek of the First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale in Florida who thinks Oculus will provide an easier worship method.

“Personally, I think that as technology like Oculus Rift becomes more developed, immersive, and available to the general public, we may soon be able to easily develop virtual worship and Christian education experiences. This would be a great asset to the church universal, as it will enable the infirm, homebound, and potentially even the poor to participate from afar regardless of their personal mobility or lack of affordable transportation …

Congregants and pastors will be able to visit and pray with greater numbers of people more often. Small groups will be able to meet more frequently, even at great distances. The way that we currently do care and discipleship will radically change as will our expectations as to what it means to participate in those aspects of the church.”
